The Yorktown CV-10 was commissioned on April 15, 1943. It's participation in the Pacific Theater during World War II helped defeat the Japanese and bring an end to the war. The Yorktown has received the Presidential Unit Citation and earned 11 battle stars for its service during WWII. During the Vietnam War she earned 5 more battle stars. The ship is 888 feet long and can reach 30 knots. The Yorktown was decommissioned in 1970 and became a museum ship at Patriot's Point, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Yorktown was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1986.
